Jackie Black

Jackie is a pediatric brain cancer survivor having been diagnosed with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma at the age of 6 . She has been in remission for 15 years. Jackie is the co-founder of the Ready or Not Foundation. Jackie graduated  with honors from W.B. Ray High School and in 2022 she graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in Spanish . She has worked in CCISD as an ESL paraprofessional and is now pursuing a goal to become a child life specialist after she gains  her certification from the University of California at Santa Barbara in December of 2024.

Jackie has been a national and state wide speaker during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month including her advocacy for the federal legislation ,” Give Kids a Chance Act” . Jackie currently leads the Ready. Set. Gold . Campaign at La Palmera every September to promote awareness and raise funds for pediatric brain cancer research at Texas Children’s Cancer Center.

Jackie and her currently mother are working on a bilingual children’s book name   “Michael and Chula , At Your Service” drawn  from Jackie’s inspirational journey with her real life service dogs . She is a weekly volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House where her compassion and love of art lifts the spirits of the children’s and families that reside there with her innovative and creative activities .

Barbara Canales

Barbara is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BlueWater Renewables, LLC. She has had a full career in both public service and private entrepreneurship. She has been a small business owner in the hospitality arena owning hotels, a restaurant/bar, and commercial real estate. She has owned and operated a variety of other successful businesses, including an oil and gas exploration and production company, working ranches, a vodka distillery, and more.

On January 1, 2019, Barbara Canales was sworn in as Nueces County’s first female Nueces County Judge in its 173-year history. For the previous five (5) years, Judge Canales had served three terms as an officer (Secretary) and Port Commissioner for the Port of Corpus Christi Authority of Nueces County, Texas – a strategic military Port protecting our national interests while serving as the largest crude oil export Port in the United States. As an ambassador for the Port and with her fluency in Spanish, she represented the Port in Central America, Spain, and Mexico in international trade and finance conferences during her tenure.

She is a native of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, and a graduate of W. B. Ray High School. Judge Canales graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1989, followed by earning her Juris Doctorate degree in 1992 from the University of Houston School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Texas and is a member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

Dr. Lynae Canales

Dr. Canales, MD, FAAP is a board certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She joined ABC Pediatrics in 2002. Dr. Canales grew up in Connecticut and received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. She received her medical degree in 1999 from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency training in 2002 with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.

Dr. Canales enjoys exploring our National Parks, watching baseball, reading and spending time with her husband and 3 sons.

Patricia Canales Bell

Patricia is an attorney and mediator in Corpus Christi, Texas. She has been active since 2007 with Ready or Not Foundation as a founding board member.

She has been recognized as a Texas Monthly Rising Star and a Super Lawyer. As a health care and women’s health care advocate, Patricia has served on the Corpus a Christi Christus Spohn Hospital Governing Board for twelve years . Patricia is also passionate about the Cure JM Foundation and has been involved in awareness and fundraising.

She is the mother of three adult children .

Alana Seal Rogers

Alana is a native of Corpus Christi but now resides in the DFW metroplex . Alana has been involved as a volunteer, advocate and social media coordinator for several pediatric cancer awareness endeavors . She has been active with the Ready or Not organization since 2008.

She is currently a small business owner and is the mother of three adult children 

Larry Olivarez, Jr.

Larry is a founding member of the Ready or Not Foundation since its inception. He has been a Private Wealth Advisor with Ameriprise Financial since 2001. He has received numerous awards during his career such as Circle of Success, the Protect Grow Give Award, CC Under 40 and was honored in 2008 with the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Outstanding Young Alumni Award. He has served as a Commissioner on the Corpus Christi Buccaneer Commission and the boards of directors with South Texas Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Services and Ray High School Baseball Booster Club. He holds a Batchelor’s Degree in Finance from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and is a graduate from the Stanford Graduate School of Business Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative. Larry resides in Corpus Christi, Texas with his wife Priscilla and children Larry III, Claire, & Jackson.
